Ooh la wafla

Objective
Design a logo for a new European-style brunch cafe and bistro serving fresh waffles, breakfast and coffee in Amman, Jordan, with the challenge of creating the same feel of the logo both in Arabic and English to serve the two main languages in the country.

Approach

Inspired by the organic drops of syrup poured on top of the waffles, in a retro style emblem, I created a logo design in two different languages and letterforms to reflect each other when seen separately. The logo design, colors, textures and choice of imagery for Wafla feel like a vintage European shop, which is how the name was derived (Wafla mean Waffles in Frankish, a language spoken by the Franks, a Germanic people active in the Roman era).
